Surgery in Cambodia

Decades after the severe loss of professional infrastructure under the Khmer Rouge, rural communities face immense barriers to basic and specialized healthcare.

In partnership with Medical Ministry International (MMI) and local partner Bileg, we mobilize specialized surgical teams to perform free, life-changing procedures for underserved communities in Cambodia.

Our multidisciplinary teams, comprised of general, orthopaedic, and plastic surgeons, anaesthetists, operating theatre and ward nurses, and administrators, treat high volumes of patients each day. We manage complex cases, provide complete post-operative care, and distribute essential medications for severe, long-neglected conditions.

During our October 2024 mission to Ratanakiri, our team managed a heavy volume of severe, untreated conditions.

Key Cases Treated

• Reconstructive & Plastic Surgery: Cleft lip repairs for paediatric patients and release of severe burn contractures.

• General & Pediatric Surgeries: Hysterectomies, parotid and thyroid tumor excisions, modified radical mastectomies (MRM), repair of complex hernias, hydroceles, undescended testicles, and excision of large cysts.

• Complex Orthopaedic Interventions: Surgical correction of congenital conditions such as thumb polydactyly under local anaesthesia.

Sustainable Healthcare

To ensure long-term impact beyond our physical presence, we emphasize capacity building alongside direct surgical delivery.

Our senior surgeons provide continuous side-by-side clinical instruction to local medical staff during operations.

Furthermore, we deliver hands-on clinical ultrasound and diagnostic training for regional health workers, equipping local teams with essential skills to diagnose and care for their communities long after our missions conclude.
